Trencadis Art, Park Güell, Barcelona

Gaudi's trencadis mosaic tiles are major attraction masterpieces once you enter the park.  This is a type of mosaic using broken tiles and was very popular during the Catalan modern style movement.  This unique architect utilized discarded tiles from a nearby factory to elaborate the magnificent serpentine mosaic pieces of art masterfully placed at the entrance of the park.
What was supposed to be a residential area, it ended up being one of the most beautiful icons of the city of Barcelona and a Unesco World Heritage Site in 1984; located on Olot 5 St., Park Guell is well placed at the upper part of Barcelona, which offers a spectacular view of the city.
The modernist work of the genius Gaudí is reflected in this piece of art that can only be enjoyed in full if you take the time to walk around the park and observe it carefully. It is a reflection of the artistic plenitude of Gaudí in his naturalistic stage but there are mythological and religious features as well defined throughout the park. Houses designed with elements of nature, a stairway that leads to a large terrace, an iconic lizard made with trencadis, passages forms of trunks of palm trees, a gazebo with a platform supported by fluted and curved columns, and undulating benches are just some of the many details shown on this unique and invaluable place.
It is amazing that the project as it was thought at first, failed entirely to give field to one of the most visited places on Earth.  The city that Gaudí conceived as private, got to become property of Barcelona citizens and the whole world;  an irony for Gaudí, a benefit of humankind.
"The architect of the future will be based on the imitation of nature, because it is the most rational, durable and economical way of all methods". Antonio Gaudi
